The spacers compress the bushings within the area they already travel. By compressing them you are stopping further wear by holding them from traveling violently up and down, as is experienced when wheel hop is accuring. The compression of this bushing by the spacer did not cause this bushing to fail. The customer hit a very large construction pot hole that would have ruptured the 12 year old bushing even easier if it had not been compressed, because it would have traveled more violently in the stock configuration making it easier to rupture. They are old bushings and I have seen quite a few bad ones that are leaking that are not being compressed. They are at the age where they do go bad. The spacers can only add to there life IMO.
If I had to replace a bad bushing in my own car, I would put back stock bushings with the spacers. The ride quality and control with this combination is unmatched IMO.
